GENERAL HIKING INFORMATION - Do's and Don't
NOTE: The following points may or may not apply to other club activities such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. If in doubt, call the leader/organizer.
1. MAPS - Map references are to the Bruce Trail Conservancy TRAIL REFERENCE. The 22nd edition became available in the spring of 2003. The club's newsletter will note which edition to use in regard to published hikes.
2. LEADERS - Remember hike leaders are unpaid volunteers.
3. PARTICIPANT RESPONSILITY - Participants on Club outings must accept responsibility for themselves, their family and guests. Be prepared to sign a waiver form.
4. WEEKEND HIKES - Saturday hikes are usually all day hikes ranging from 10 to 24 km in length. Sunday afternoon hikes are more leisurely, sometimes followed by refreshments.
5. MEETING PLACE(S) - Generally we tend to meet at Westside Bowling & Billiards parking lot (WSB), 902 - 10th Street West, Owen Sound > MAP (Sunset Strip) and car pool from there to the hike location. Passengers are encouraged to contribute to the driver's gas costs. Some hike leaders may choose to have people meet elsewhere so read the individual hike description carefully and/or call the leader.
6. ADDITIONAL/ALTERNATIVE MEETING PLACE(S) - If you plan to meet with the hike anywhere other than the designated meeting place(s), please call the hike leader beforehand. Where alternative meeting places are noted in the schedule, the hike leader may appoint someone to meet the hikers in her/his place, (usually at WSB - Westside Bowling & Billiards, 902 - 10th Street West, Owen Sound > MAP).
7. DOGS - Please, NO DOGS on orgaized hikes.
8. HIKE CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS - Sometimes hikes are changed or even cancelled due to weather conditions. If in doubt, call the hike leader.
9. MEETING TIME vs. DEPARTURE TIME - Hikers and hike leaders note that tmes given for Saturday hikes are departure times. Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to avaoid missing the activity. Sunday hikes meet at 1:15 p.m. and leave at 1:30 p.m.unless otherwise noted.
