In the past few years you may recall that the BTC had a sponsorship agreement with Keen Canada, where hikers could upload photos of themselves on our Trail, with a donation going to the BTC based on the number of people (i.e. boots) in the photos. These have been great sponsorships for us - they engage our members and non-members, they pass along the message of Keen as an environmentally responsible corporation, and they have provided funds to the BTC for our many programs.
KEEN Canada is partnering with the BTC again this year. We are very excited to launch another year of the successful Boots Give Back program. (You may have noticed it on the back cover of the recent BTC magazine.) In addition this year, KEEN is launching a special BTC membership offer.
In order to keep the Boots Give Back program fresh and interesting, each year the program changes in some manner. This year, the program encourages participants to visit specific Bruce Trail locations to snap their Boots Give Back photo. At these specific Trail locations, the goal is to educate our members and non-members about our role in conservation and land preservation, as well as give them a sample hike on the Trail.
There are 10 hikes selected along the Bruce Trail (one in each Club section, plus an extra in Peninsula). The Sydenham Club hike is at Walter’s Falls. Each hike is displayed on Keen's web page www.keencanada.ca/BootsGiveBack with a map, driving directions, parking information, and detailed hiking directions, along with encouragement to visit the location, hike the Trail, and take a photo of your boots at a specific feature along that hike.
Each photo will generate a $10 donation for the BTC (no extra funds this year for number of people in the photo), and each person can submit a maximum of 10 photos. Try to do all 10 hikes! Be creative with your photos! There will be prizes for photos submitted. It will be fun, and easy! The program runs from August 1 to October 31, 2011.

The maximum donation we can obtain for the BTC is $50,000. It will be a challenge to get the 5,000 photo uploads required to reach that $50,000 donation, but it’s a terrific goal for us. This program is a great outreach tool, a terrific way to introduce people to the Bruce Trail, and to drive home the fact that we are a charity that needs their support.
So please get out there and visit these 10 great hikes, take your photos, and upload them!
And please share this program with your friends and your communities. You could:
This is a great opportunity not only to secure another big donation, but also to get more people thinking about the Bruce Trail.
While we are talking to people in our community about the Boots Give Back program, we can also share another exciting opportunity. KEEN Canada is offering a special discounted membership offer. For a limited time, KEEN Canada will cover HALF of a $50 New One-Year Membership. (Does not apply to Additional Clubs, 3-Year, Lifetime, Community or Renewing Memberships.) Any new member can join the BTC today for $25. This is a never-before-offered special. It’s a terrific way to start talking about membership with folks. The membership offer is available at www.keencanada.ca/bootsgiveback
We are very excited about both of these terrific outreach opportunities. We sincerely hope you enjoy sharing the message with people in your community.
